the beer diaries world tour: belize

By Daniel Reifsnider

As many of you know, the venerable The Beer Diaries are a notable addition to the Austin and larger national craft beer community, providing the entire community with brewer focused stories and insights into the larger world surrounding craft beer.

The folks behind the stalwart have announced a new series to their video catalog focused on expanding our knowledge of the history and culture surrounding craft beer communities around the world. I’m personally excited about this new series since I’m greatly interested in learning more about the socio-economic factors surrounding craft beer communities around the world, including the people and culture that birth and support/not-support craft beer.

tcbf 2015 – the magic is now!

By Daniel Reifsnider

Next Saturday, July 19th, the Texas Craft Brewers Festival descends upon the thriving beeropolis of Austin, TX. As usual, the festival is taking place at Fiesta Gardens and this year’s shebang is looking to be the best one yet with over 150 beers being poured by over 60 Texas breweries (and quite of bit of them are brand new this year).

We here at Stay Hoppy have been long time fans of this festival, and it’s our collective thought that not only is this festival one not to miss, but it’s also one of the best beer festivals that happens all year. From the amazing selection of rotating rare beer tappings to the one on one time spent with brewers during the V.I.P session, this festival is a wondrous celebration of Texas beer year after year.

whichcraft beer store’s jody reyes and crew

By Carlos Arellano and Daniel Reifsnider

This Sunday, April 26th the fine folks at WhichCraft Beer Store are celebrating their store’s one year existence by throwing a killer party at Hops & Grain Brewery. You can snag a ticket here, but in the meantime, to celebrate this momentous achievement Carlos decided to sit down with owner and founder of WhichCraft Jody Reyes, along with some of the other crew members and talk about beer, people, and a lot of stuff in-between.

off-centered film fest: because being centered is overrated

By Daniel Reifsnider

This Thursday through Saturday (April 23-25), Alamo Drafthouse and Dogfish Head Brewery are getting the gang back together to celebrate their 8th off-centered film festival (OCFF), and what a festival it’s looking to be. This year, each respective party decided to change things up a bit and throw a nautical themed festival, because apparently, as all the eastside hipsters have known for quite sometime, being centered is overrated.

With rare Dogfish Head and Austin based beers planning on flowing in mass quantities, and killer movie events such as Master Pancake Presents Titanic, and the Wes Anderson celebrated cult classic The Life Aquatic, I wouldn’t miss the boat for this one, because it’s going to be a pretty awesome boat.

Beer List Announcement

stay hoppy’s austin untapped fest beer guide

By Daniel Reifsnider

In just under three days, Austin music and beer folk alike will be celebrating the first time the Untapped Indie Music and Beer Festival has hit within city limits. As such, we here at Stay Hoppy thought it’d be nice to continue sharing some tips we’ve learned from previous events to make your festival day be just a little happier (more like hoppier eh oh!). I know, I know you’re probably asking yourself “when there’s great beer and music involved, what could possibly happen to make my day go bad?” Well, standing in line while you could be drinking a beer for one. Another possibility is using up all your beer tickets before realizing that one beer you desperately wanted didn’t make the cut.

lessons for real ale’s 19th anniversary party

By Daniel Reifsnider

Well folks, it’s that time of the year again. The time of the year when the oak trees decide to go all The Happening on us and only get as far as causing massive allergies. It’s also the time of the year when beer seasons start changing to embrace the warm Texas sun and patio drinking becomes a temp job.

Most importantly, however, is that it’s the time of the year the grand folks out at Real Ale decide to celebrate their brewery birthday, and invite the masses to celebrate with them. And with that in mind, we here at Stay Hoppy decided to do things a little differently and instead of recapping the event, we’re sharing some of the lessons we’ve learned from past years.

“Love Austin Beer” Pop-Up Gallery Show by Bitch Beer

By Daniel Reifsnider

Most everyone I know loves to travel in one way or another. Truly, nothing is often more glorious than getting out of the daily grind and finding yourself in a previously unknown location and experiencing life in its entire splendor with a beer in hand. Whether visiting a new brewery or beer bar, or even finding that perfectly secluded spot to gorge on some canned beer, nothing beats imbibing in a brand new place. It’s what the best memories are made of, and we here at Stay Hoppy fully endorse the travel to drink mentality.

Traveling for beer is the motivation behind a new screen print gallery happening this Friday, December 12th at Studium, located right next door to one of our favorite haunts, Wright Bros. Brew & Brew. Created and hosted by the ladies over at Bitch Beer, the “Love Austin Beer” pop-up gallery show is meant to provide several of these ladies with traveling monies for their upcoming trip across the pond to Europe next year to work on a beer travel book they’ll be writing soon.

(mis)adventures in Denver: GABF part 1

It’s a packed house at Freshcraft

By Daniel Reifsnider

As I’m sure all of you already know, the Great American Beer Festival ended over two weeks ago, and the subsequent hangover is finally starting to subside for us here at Stay Hoppy. Suffice it to say we hit it hard, and GABF hits hard back. Sadly, we were warned last year, but we thought we could overcome, but if this ongoing hangover is any indication we should’ve listened better.

Let’s just start at the beginning and see if we can find our way back. Be sure to check out the end for the highlights if you’re one of those tl;dr people.

2014 texas craft brewers festival recap

By Daniel Reifsnider

Always stylishly late to the party, it’s time for the Stay Hoppy recap of this year’s Texas Craft Brewers Festival (TCBF), which happened this past Saturday, September 27th at Fiesta Gardens.

It was a day filled with mirth and happiness in all the right and wrong ways, with brewers and beer lovers coming together in a blessed union that transformed the peaceful park of Fiesta Gardens into an undeniable storm of relentless beer drinking and overall debauchery.

a friday night at infamous brewing with the beer diaries

By Daniel Reifsnider

This past Friday, Carlos was successful in wrangling me from the confines of my after-work routine, and convinced me to join him in a trek out to Infamous Brewing for the latest showing of The Beer Dairies featuring Infamous Brewing.

After a lazy drive up 620, Carlos and I eventually arrived in a foreign land named Hudson Bend, which is home to Infamous Brewing and a group of people who like to go by the name of Benders. If you don’t know about Benders, they tend to exemplify the “I do what I want” spirit of Texas, which I suppose is even more reason to found a brewery named Infamous here.
